February is Black History Month

Black History Month is a remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated annually in most countries worldwide in the month of February, while in the UK it is held in the month of October.
The remembrance was originated in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson as "Negro History Week". Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Woodson also founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. [www.asalh.org]

From third singular to third person plural by Fatima Begum

Hawkeye

They call them Ms Hawkeye and Mr. Scanner. They are the world’s fastest readers. They work for a printing company. They proofread every single book printed by that company. They wait at the end of a big machine . Piles of pages continually move towards her. After she picks up a page, she scans it. She looks for printing and typing errors. Sometimes she notices mistakes. She marks them in pencil. She doesn’t smile or look up. She is a very fast worker. The company pays her very well because she is extremely valuable to it.

In your own words...

Tell us a little bit about yourself...
Where are you from? Tell us about your country
How long have you been in New York?
What has your experience been like?
What advise would share with others that are new to this city?
